Dazed and confused in Copenhagen.

It is a heat wave here in Copenhagen. No A/C in the airport. The Copenhagen card place emerged in front of us, Plan A. But we failed to find the right option on the machine. Queued at the counter and no problem. It was hot and my tow bag kept falling over sideways. I gave up and just dragged it on to the metro.

We were carefully watching for our station but they all seemed to be named "Neste Station". Ours finally got a mention but then it went back to this damned "Nested Station".

We got off, into the first bag shop, and got a new one with 4 wheels.

Transferred everything from old to new, the shop agreed to dispose my old one.

It rolled around the store beautifully.

Out on the street we noticed an issue. The Danes have streets specifically designed to destroy wheeled luggage.

Cobblestones everywhere. We crossed the road to walk through the park. Completely cobblestones also. After another road crossing we found a nice smooth path. It took about 5 seconds before we saw a horde of angry pushbikers charging straight at us.

If the path can't destroy wheeled luggage it's a bike only path. They’re everywhere.

It was hot. We were tired. Push bikes own the best foot paths, but Google maps was working. You just have to ignore the fact that it thinks you are always walking in the opposite direction.

The hotel room was a sauna. We turned the AC to max, showered and went back to the luggage shop to retrieve our cruise boarding passes hidden in an end pocket.

There was no end pocket and no passes. They were in the new bag after all.

Ludicrously staggered around Copenhagen a bit. Saw a castle for no particular reason. It was there and our card gave free entrance.

Headed to the tourist wharf area for dinner.

Collapsed to sleep an hour ago.

An eternity in hell

We had to change at Dubai. It was 7am and already 44 degrees. We had 1.5 hours to get to the other gate, so it was always going to be tight. We had parkas on. They were removed during our half hour walk to the train. Which took us to another terminal and another 40 min walk in the opposite direction to train we just got off. Finally the gate. A quick passport check and on to a 20 min bus ride. At one point it looked as if we were about to merge on to the freeway. I was checking out the driver for ISIL ensignias but he made a last moment right and pulled up next to our plane. Neither of us could sleep on the seemingly never ending 7 hour haul to Copenhagen.

Flying High

The 13 hour leg to dubai was not utterly dreadful. I was next to former pilot. I asked if our pilots die from the chicken if he could land the plane.

But he really just wanted to talk about the inevitable global warming disaster, the next gfc, etc. Since he also previously worked for BHP Steel I asked if the overhead luggage rack had adequate tensile strength if I tried to hang myself from it.

Either he's never seen the movie or just irredeemably depressed about his daughter in law marrying a billionaire capitalist. The reason for his trip.

Five bunnies in need of peace and quiet

Our bunnies seem confused by the neurotic antics engulfing them today. Tricia has fully prepared 10 litter trays, 200 individual packs of lettuce, and enough hay for a small farm for 12 months. The bunnies have been hugged and sobbed over so much that they will probably flee at the sight of any human. We have 5. Plenty of spares if a few don't survive while we're away. Her suitcase, by comparison is a neglected pile of disorganised crap.

Six Million Dollar Man

Well, not exactly. Unfortunately no new bionic parts, but for the most part my legacy components are functioning to an adequate performance level. Jeremy Cross, my physio, gets a huge thumbs up. The guy is awesome. If you live in the west, he works at physiohealth. We are now looking forward to escaping our 24 hour sentence at the mercy of Qantas and Emirates. I have the Copenhagen airport map, location to buy our 24 hour Copenhagen cards (public transport and museums etc), how to get to the metro, which stop to get off at and how to walk to our hotel. Plan B is to collapse into a taxi.

New pants

I hate shopping. I especially hate shopping for clothes for myself. At lunch today I tried on several pairs and bought one for our trip. This will avoid embarrassing Tricia on our luxury Baltic cruise. But more importantly,  I did this with minimal back or leg pain. Whoohoo!

My physio may sleep easier now.

Down but not yet out

The last 7 weeks of physio costs now exceed our airfares. Then again, so did the 8 day car hire in Norway for a tiny VW Golf. One week left and I'm hobbling to the starting gate. If I don't make it, my ebullient physio will need one himself.
