Helsinki, Finland

The 5 minute return shuttle bus from the ship to the centre of town cost 10 Euros each. We didn't have any. We had to re-board the ship, going through airport style security, and find the ATMs. It would only give US$50 or more. Too much but we took it. Then it advised there was a $6 ATM fee. I was no longer in a good mood.

It was a cloudy, cold day and we were disoriented on getting off the bus.

Tricia didn't want to read the street sign 10 metres to the right and headed 50 metres to the left. Luckily? I was frozen in place by pain. So I read the map and worked out Tricia was headed in the opposite direction. She soon came bouncing back to tell me where to go.

The modern art building was was one of those impractical, curvy, artsy things. It didn't look very big, promising.

We were 5 minutes before opening time and were entertained by 20 kindergarten kids in high vis jackets

The first display was about Ronald McDonald's guillotine beheading by an ISIS style group. The entire floor was devoted to art expressing outrage at the quality of fast food and advertising to children. It was hilarious. I wondered if such a campaign achieved it's aim of educating kids or if they would rebel?

The next floor had Maplethorpe crap. Way past its use by date. Presumably the kids don't visit that floor.

After that we went to the Church in the rock. Don't bother. Just look at a picture online.

The national museum was also a complete waste of time. At least we didn't have to suffer one of those guides that gets excited about every cup or woven basket.

The wharf area was nice, it was sunny.

We love this clean city. The people are pro-actively friendly, asking if they can help you. They are very socially, healthily and environmentally concious.
